The F Word - 5:12 PM
April 6th is a big day.Not only because I'll be turning another year young, it's also when the Michigan State Spartans will be playing their biggest game in their college basketball careers.
Thus, the F word(s).
For one, I'll be Twenty-Fricking-Four.
And as in the day winds down, anticipation will be building up at the other side of the country, in my adopted, embattled College state of Michigan.
The NCAA Men's basketball Final Four games concluded yesterday, with the Spartans, MY Michigan State 300 trouncing the No. 1 seeded Connecticut huskies, unexpectedly of course. We played hard, we played tough, we played intense, and we won.
Monday will feature us playing University of North Carolina, who undoubtedly has the best talent in the nation, future NBA stars these guys are. But no matter, because we are Michigan State, and as Coach Izzo says, "We’ll play anybody, anyplace, anytime. It doesn’t matter, morning, noon or night, and it doesn’t matter who it is."
And perhaps it is fate, that this year's Championships are played at Ford Field, Detroit... the dodgy ghetto backyard of East Lansing (where MSU's campus is situated). Amid continuing pressing issues like the state's unemployment rate, shady politics, high criminal crime rates, Michigan finally has a silver lining to look forward to.
If I were to be completely honest, Michigan is quite the gloomy state. Maybe its because of the weather, most likely its because of the present state of the economy. That's why Michigan State's victory will be the sweetest birthday present not only for me, but for everyone rooting for the underdogs. Well....wait, I wouldn't mind certain other material items OF COURSE. Ha.
Why am I not in school at this particular moment?

Anyway, I'll be wearing my green and white tomorrow!! Have a Happy Birthday everyone!
