Me Day - 6:48 PM
Saturday. Ahhh... can I just say AMEN. Saturdays are great because I get to wake up at whatever time I want, do anything I want (or rather, NOT DO anything I don't want to do), and just be plain lazy. And being able to wake up to no sound of the alarm is important to me because I woke up on Thursday and it sunk it yet again that....1) For as long as I work, I will be getting up at 7AM EVERY MONDAY TO FRIDAY of the year, because
2) I work on public holidays with the exception of Christmas.
3) Multiply that by 40 years.
That simple calculation is often enough to make me cry foul and lie in bed, unashamed, for extended periods of time on the weekends.
So anyway, weekends are also for running errands... so I checked out the neighborhood library for the first time because I was helping my colleague return Obama's memoir that she had kindly double-loaned me the book. (Never read it though). And then I found a tiny second hand bookstore within the library. The prices were shocking. $1 for a paperback, 50c for old magazines, 50c for small paperbacks. geez!!!!!!!!!! I have been contributing to Amazon's bank account and didn't realize, and instead was still congratulating myself for beating the system by not having to pay shipping charges cos I will spend $25 or more each time.
So anyway I walked away with 2 books - James Frey's A Million Little Pieces (Yes I know he's a fraudster but I still want to know what he wrote about that was worth Oprah fussing over), and Karen Fowler's The Jane Austen Book Club. Honestly, I bought them cos they were $1 la. Haha. So it seems like I found a place to go on the weekend...best thing is its RIGHT NEXT DOOR.
And then I went for eyebrow threading at Eyebrows R Us, awesome place though they raised their eyebrow theading prices by a fricking 30% since July... but then I have no choice and its still rather reasonable considering I now only get my brows professionally groomed every 3-4 months. The decor of the place... hmmmmm, it looked like it was outfitted by a very confused Indian with a Chinese fetish. First of all, there were a pair of mini stone lions guarding the doors, and the each lion was accompanied by the quintessential Chinese towkay's favorite decoration- the fortune cat. Then behind the reception desk which is just a L shaped desk with glass table top, there were bamboo (liek the kind you see for CNY), in blue and white vases. A miniature version was on the table. But then the walls were lavender, with a safari sort of blotting going on. The drapes were burgundy. Need I go on? But at least they did remove the CHRISTMAS STREAMERS and TASSELS that they draped around the table legs the first time I was there.
I feel like I need a vacation.
NYC in Christmas!
