Beijing Ou-Lim-Pi-Ke - 6:51 PM
Its finally here!!! I miss my Fuwas alot and very sad that I can't be there with them. The Opening ceremony deserves its own Academy Awards for Best Visuals, Best Costumes, and Best Execution (there is no such award but I think they should create it so they can win). It was awe-inspiring. All the volunteers moving in sync and opening the Games in such fashion is just spectacular. I found myself gushing and holding my breath the entire time (until the parade of the contingents where I drifted away to wash dishes and shower cos it took forever). In particular, I enjoyed the opening drums, the majestic sound of 2,008 drums beating together. The period costumes with the gigantic scroll which I personally think can be utilized for Zhang Yimou's next movie. And the fireworks.. WAHHHH they were just like an eruption of euphoria.
Anyway, I have to win an award for always ending up in the wrong time zone as the Games. To add to that, stupid NBC decided that people living the West Coast of the U.S. should not deserve to watch the games LIVE. I understand the delayed telecast of the Opening Ceremony cos its really more like watching a movie... but the SPORTS themselves?!! Yah, so I basically read about Michael Phelps breaking the World Record before I watched it... 3 FRICKING HOURS LATER.... Yes apparently the station who paid close to $900Million decided that they should just show the games when there are enough people gathered in front of the TV to watch to garner high enough ratings. Ok come on. We are not watching a movie ok. We are not going to converge in front of the TV with a barrel of popcorn and soda and pizza to watch a repeat telecast when the entire world already knows the results. We will wake up at ungodly hours if thats what it takes to see our favorite athletes. People have been doing it for YEARS for other major tournaments like the World Cup, so what is the big deal?
Tell me now, WHO WATCHES RECORDED SPORTS? And its the OLYMPICS, not some college football game which I am sure no station would DARE to say 'OOPS sorry you gotta wait about umm, 2 hours after the rest of the country has seen it.' I am personally upset and am sure tons of people share the same sentiments. I got up at 7am on Sunday and wanted to catch the US Vs China Basketball game to find it not to be on TV. Uh-huh, Awesome... all that hype about the Redeem Team, NO LIVE COVERAGE. Screw you, NBC. I later resigned my fate to watching the game stream Live online. (about a 5-10 second lapse but better than 3 hours late) how can liddattttttt.....
This is ridiculous ok. Unacceptable. I am in the USA with cable TV, not Somalia with one satellite dish for the entire village.
Anyhow, I can't wait to watch Track and Field, and some Diving, and some Gymnastics. Oh about Gymnastics.... who came up with it? I mean, its torturous with the sole purpose of the sport to test who pushes human limits the MOST. Ouch. I'm so scared they will tumble and bang their head or something. So many years of training, to flounder at a split second.... cruel.
Ok, I am going to watch the rest of the games on the internet (@($*$&@$^!).
Enjoy the games, everybody!
