Splendid Thanks - 12:26 AM
So, I've got myself a car. I will officially get it tomorrow. Lets hope I won't get cheated and stuff like that.I'll be moving to my apartment on Thursday. The earliest I'll have internet set up is probably the weekend, even so I'm doubtful. In the meantime, if you need to get me, write me an email.
Ruoyi came and left last weekend. We caught the Phantom which has the best props ever! But I was so tired I could hardly keep my eyes up. And we went to Target and spent $400. Glorious. I love target.
At work, things are going. Not exceptionally well because training for a new job requires ample patience and you have to be really alert. And you know how I operate la. But its not bad, time passes pretty quickly actually. And I feel like I'm using my brains. Especially since work involves A LOT of Excel, and yah, Excel is not cool. On one hand I secretly admire the Indian IT engineers who came up with it, but I wish it was easier!
I hope I don't need to get a second Lasik surgery soon. Hah.
Today, we had a big send off for the troops. You see, this past Monday was a public holiday - Memorial Day (which coincidentally I found out that I had to work ALL public holidays except Christmas. Joy) Memorial Day honors the veterans and soldiers who give up their lives to fight for the country. You know how the anthem goes, 'Land of the Free, Home of the Brave'.
Well anyway, Mr. Sheldon Adelson (CEO of the Sands Corp) and his wife Dr. Adelson hosted about 25 war veterans and their families at the Venetian Resort over the weekend to thank them for their contribution to the country. Today, they were leaving at 1030am. So everyone got an email saying morning meetings are canceled, please head to the lobby to send the veterans off.
So at 10am, you could see all employees lined up on both sides. Chambermaids, Chefs, Cocktail Waitresses, Gondoliers, Entertainers, Security, Office workers (i.e. me)... and they came, led by Mr. and Dr. Adelson, they were escorted by Venetian team members who used to serve in the army, we cheered, clapped and some went up to offer a hug or handshake. The veterans I saw, a few had prosthetic limbs, one was blind, another looked about 19 yrs old have already lost a leg. Ironically, I think they were the lucky ones.
Were they foolish enough to believe that they can change the world? Probably. But they showed unconditional love. That, I can probably never be.
Anyhow, I am proud that I work for a man such as Mr. Adelson. This is the first time I see a real life Billionaire. He's I believe the 3rd richest man in the USA. Raised in poor conditions, he is a real life self made man. And I cannot help but feel terribly touched by him, Dr. Adelson, and all they've done.
Thank you, thank you. Not only for canceling this morning's meeting, but also showing so much love to the people who faced so much hate. Thank you for making me feel proud of being part of the family. Thank you.
