Lucky Number Seven - 4:01 PM
July always makes me feel so... so...., sad? Sian? Hot? All of the above, I guess. You see, July is here and its the time I suddenly jerk awake and realise half the year has passed. Just like that! Like *clicks fingers* that! And in July, it would mean that we're halfway through the summer holidays, which reminds me that I only have 2 more months to go before I return to school. Not that its bad, just that I've been working the last 2 summers, and suddenly thought about that... I haven't REALLY had a summer vacation. And now that I am working, I can safely say that the lifestyle that school offers, and thus makes the whole package way more attractive.
By now, I think we can all assume that I will be a full time slave of the society come next July... so.not.looking.forward.to.that.
This July will be a busy one for me. Tomorrow is the 4th of July, which is Independence Day in America. They don't have the big parade like Singapore (which I miss very much, btw), but they do have fireworks. (A dutiful taxpaying colleague was bitter about it, saying he will definitely go watch his taxes 'go up in flames', literally.) So I guess I will be spending the 4th watching fireworks at the Centennial Olympic Park in Downtown Atlanta. I think it will be nice and fun, as long as the friendly Five Points (read: SUPER SHADY, HOMELESS, CRAZY PEOPLE) community doesn't decide to come out in force and join us.
Oh right...Julys are always the month where pending departures tend to turn into reality. You know the part when you KNOW you will have to eventually leave, but just refuse to think about it? When you first get to somewhere, and you're like 'Oh no worries. I'll be here for 10 weeks.'. Well, then July rolls around and you go 'Oh holy cow, I only have 2 weeks left!' The revelation is just sometimes... Shocking.
Did you know that my internship is ending next Friday? Coincidentally, my last day will fall on Friday the 13th. As a side tidbit, did you know that happened to be 2 Friday the 13ths this year? And while we're on the topic, did you know that most hotels in the U.S (and perhaps in Western countries), do not have the 13th floor? They conveniently skip over the 13th and go on to 14th, which is really the 13th. But they seem to derive much consolation from that. *shrugs*
The 12th and 14th floors of my hotel are dedicated to meeting rooms. I hate it up there. In fact, I don't like the hotel in a cylindrical shape. I mean, its cool looking yeah, yeah... wadever. But I get super dizzy whenever I go upstairs. Not forgetting how claustrophobic I get.
I will leave Atlanta the day after my internship ends, and head back to NYC for 3 days before departing from JFK to India.
Oh right...
India.
I nearly forgot. Oye!
I don't know why, but the idea of me going to India hasn't really sunk in yet. Surprisingly, the leg I'm most looking forward to is Bangkok. (we'll be in BKK from Aug 3rd-8th as part of the trip. to look at spas. yeah, u heard right. S-P-A-S) Ironically, Bangkok is the only place on the itinerary where I've been before. And I'm looking forward to it the most. Not because there is Chatuchak (too crowded, TOO HOT), maybe its because I'll be meeting Shiyun there (but not really)... Oh yes. The haircut and cheap manicures!!!
So back to India. I seem to need to get alot of stuff before I leave. Like sunblock. Like another pair of $10 sunglasses in case the $10 ones I have now break. Like malaria pills because, you know.. its India, its the summer, and I certainly don't wish to die. Like the book 'The World is Flat', which I am really supposed to have finished reading before the trip. Oops. Like tons of toiletries. Like this, like that. Sometimes, I wonder when can I stop worrying about packing, and start living?
And so. I will soon have to start to say goodbye to the people at the hotel. Just like last July.
Ok then, you all have a great 4th!
