A vacaton photoblog - Hongkong 2006 - 5:44 PM
Here are pictures from my Hongkong trip with the people who matter most - My parents, Ruoyi, Shiyun and Meishan. We were joined by my godparents on Day 2. ENJOY!!You know you're in Hongkong when....
columns after columns of flats stack up against each other, and the wantans are bigger than anywhere elses!!The hotel I've scouted on the internet, The Grand Stanford Intercontinental, located on Tshim Tsha Tsui, was along the harbor. So we took a leisure walk toward the Star Ferry after putting our bags down.

A portrait of a family (minus Ruoxi) on Avenue of the Stars where the Hk movie stars had their names engraved on stars on the walkway.
A portrait of best friends. They had lil displays in a shape of a Chrsitmas tree by the water, and had lil notes hanging from them. I was uber excited, and rushed to read them... One after another, they were addressed to the late famous HK movie star... LESLIE CHUNG. Ok, someone might see it as a tribute to the well loved actor, but I personally found it CREEEEPY!!
Cityscape. From one side to another.
On the star ferry towards HongKong Island.
We went to the restaurant most well known for having the best roasted goose in town for some high-tea.
century egg. I no like.
Dan tarts...I LIKE!!

The star of the restaurant.. Roasted Goose.. I SUPER DUPER LIKE!! =)
Yau Gwei at workAfter we had our little snack, we walked 2 streets to Lan Kwai Fong...

and posed with a pole??? Wth? Ok so it was supposed to be the sign that said LAN KWAI FONG, but it was cut off by my father la. aiyoh.
Whats a trip to Hongkong without visiting The Peak? So off we went, in a typical small bus (i.e xiao3 ba1)
To be honest, when we got to the Peak, no matter how we looked, we COULD NOT find the place to take the picture of the skyline of Hongkong. Oh, by the way, do you know that Hongkong was voted to have the 3rd best skyline in the world?
So since we couldn't find the place to take the picture, what else should we do but to splurge on Aiji Ichiban candy? hur hur.
So when we were about to leave via the tram, crestfallen, we walked past Pacific Coffee, which had huge glass panels overlooking...-GASP-

THE SKYLINE WE WERE LOOKING FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And since we found it, of cos we had to take pictures.

We kind look photoshopped into the picture. Don't you think so?

Aiya... Ma, open your eyes leh ma!

On the tram ride down.
As soon as our feet hit ground, we rushed to Mongkok for some late night shopping + dessert.

Xu Liu Shan, anyone?
The next morning, Pa went to Vietnam, and we went to Stanley Market. To get to Stanley Market, we took a bus from right outside our hotel, all the way across Repulse Bay. The ride was like its name ... repulsive at times, cos the roads were narrow and windy. But by the time we were nearly there, the scenary turned beautiful and the ride turned from bumpy, to exhilirating.

waiting for the bus.

taking this pic on the bus was not easy cos it was the ultimate test of steady hands. PASSED!

Shiyun was terrified... Aiii Shiyun, ni2 ye3 tai4 ai4 yan3 le bah!!

Repuls-ive bay. hur hur. where the sea met the sky.
In the evening, we met up with my godparents who joined us, and set off to our relative's place in Sha Tim.
The next morning, we woke up automatically (i.e without alarms), and went for some good ol dim sum.

Ok, this is my fault. I over-ordered. .. but hey, what do you expect? I haven't had this in AGES!! But the bill actually came up to only S$10 per pax!!! That kinda erased my guilt for overordering.
And off we went after Dimsum, full and happy... to this lil fishing village called Da4 Au4 (dai oh). To get there, we had to take the subway to Tung Chung, where the factory outlet mall is located, and then another 45minutes of nauseating bus ride before we got there. But like they always say, we have to travel far to see good things, and so we didn't mind. But on the way back, Shiyun was holding her pee back for the ENTIRE journey. She VERY NEARLY let it go on the coach. wahhaha.
spell T-A-I O-U!!
Boat ride for 10hkd. we opted out.
old women scaling fish
beautiful sunset in the village

The quaint temple on a quiet alley.

Higher, higher, and higher!! Meishan and Shiyun showing how to do the jump.
And then my godfather decided that the pic turned out well, and decided to do a copycat.

The result? Uhhh....UHHHHHH zhe4 wei4 lao3 bo2, ni3 hai2 hao3 ba?? (hello uncle, are you alright?). I swear he felt another 10 years older when his feet touched ground . But nevertheless, a commendable effort for a 60 year old!!

At the playground, the 3 young ones did another buddha jump over the wall. Me leh? Wa buay sai la... leave it to them to split their jeans!

But this yoga pose I could do, and I did it the best.... cos I had the broadest feet. Darn.

Ruoyi and me with our Godma. I think she takes skII to a whole new level.

WAH KAO. kiam her-eh until cannot kiam

wahhhhh... hao duo tu2 chan3 oh!! (wahhh look at all the goodies!)

Si kgin nahs at war
For dinner, we settled at one of the three restaurants in the village. Like they say...When in Rome, eat pizza. ...When in Da Au, eat seafood la!

Hmmm pai seh we spent most of our time eating instead of taking pics. but you agar get the point.
Then, we took the Star Ferry back to Tshim Tsha Tsui, where we walked the path back to the hotel. Halfway, we were entranced by this jingling of the ice cream truck. And of cos we needed dessert mahhhhh...

But softee vans like these are really chop carrothead. I remember the one and only time I tried it was in NYC in the summer. If it wasn't due to the sweltering heat that summers day when I had to walk 30 blocks home, I wouldn't had bothered... for $2 bought me a measly lump of cream. BAH.
THen we smelt cuttlefish and bought that too. THats a much better investment than the ice cream, for sure.
Ave of the Stars looking towards Hongkong island at night. See that iconic hk building that appears in almost every HK drama? (according to Shiyun, the hk drama junkie)The next day, we were due to leave at 8pm. So that left us with the entire morning and afternoon to shop in Tshim Tsha Tsui! I didn't really care for the shopping, I was more abt eating that last bowl of wantan mee.

succulent shrimp BURSTING out of the wantan skin.
mmm...I LIKEEEE...After shopping, we got tired and had time to spare after checking out of the hotel, and spent sometime at nearby Starbucks (at least they didn't allow smoking in there!)
Ruoyi, your eyes ye tai da le bah? After that, we went early to the airport using the Airport Express, and spent the rest of the time buying goodies. hehe.
All in all, I would say this trip went very well. Though I was super grouchy on the first day cos I was still jetlagged, everyone was quite understanding. Hur hur. Thank you, Hongkong, for blessing us with fine weather, which was awesome after 2 days of neverending rain in Singapore...I cannot wait to return soon! (I HEARD THEY BANNED INDOOR SMOKING WOOHOO!!!)..Oh well, actually I cannot wait to go on another trip with these folks again, no matter where it is in the world. So lets keep our fingers crossed!
