Happy Independence Day, people! I don't know about you, but it was definitely a Happy one for me... Actually, I deem any day a good one as long as I can wake up automatically and bum around and do wadeva I want... heheBut hor, Americans don't seem to take their National day with much anticipation and gusto like Singaporeans. For them, its not really about reciting the pledge and singing patriotic songs... its more like, lazing in Central Park, or going to the suburbs to catch some HotDog Eating Competition action, or of course, a fantastic excuse to watch the World Cup. mmmm... I see the years of National Day Celebrations in school has instilled some sort of national pride in me... I used to reallyyyy look forward to all the wadeva CNY la, Sports day la, National Day la, Teachers' Day celebrations.. not only because we have one day off school, but cos they are really fun!
Wah, the CNY Celebration in JC1, I remmeber they had class representatives who dressed up in accordance to the CNY. So there was this guy who was dressed as a KUM! omg I remember rolling around, slapping my thigh and cracking up in convulsions. In Cedar, National Day was really cool cos the various uniformed groups would march and do their fancy things and commands. We would then retreat to the airconditioned hall for a concert. Though u get the boring stuff, parts of the program is actually really fun. And then I remember at the end, they will switch off all the lights and everyone will just break into a chorus of 'Stand Up for Singapore', or something. I LOVE those songs, and you can say whatever you want.
I mean, hell blast the govt or wadeva for all you want, but when it comes to National Day, most people will try to wear red and white. Plus, you'll get commended for your effort. Fly your flag high up with pride a month before the NDP, and DID I MENTION NDP? Though I've never attended one before, but I hear its really good. This yr is when I'll be spending my first Aug 9th abroad actually. I'm so gonna miss out on the celebrations and customary pizza/bbq that we have at home.
OK, great that Italy won. Wow, talent PLUS good looks??? Thats a first! Back to work tomorrow and HOPEFULLY I won't need to work on Sat.
