Call me the Undomestic Goddess - 9:43 AM
And so two very exciting events will be occuring next week. Exciting because nothing EVER happens to me, and exciting because it involves FOOD. WAHHAHAH...The mission of the International Hospitality Student Org (aka IHSO or the ASIAN SENSATIONS club) is to expose students to various cultures in order to create an awareness of the global hospitality industry. That is why we went to Puerto Rico and did site visits, thats why our meetings consists of our President reading to us articles regarding global tourism and hospitality. (Truth be told, I usually daze into the dim, yellow light.) Anyway, whats a better way of breaking into the different cultures than EATING?!?! Haha, and so, YEP. The Asian Sensations Club is organizing an INTERNATIONAL POTLUCK PARTY!!!
Out of those who went to our general meeting on Monday, only about 2 are Americans. So we will be expecting a turn out of largely-Asian fare. Korean food, Japanese food, Indian food, Chinese food etc... I AM SO EXCITED!!
During our meeting, we were discussing what to bring and such. Mira (Korean) was like 'I don't wanna bring this... so hard to cook!!'... Sean (Taiwanese) said 'oKok, i have KoreanHouse's number...' hahaha... Sean's quite funny huh. And then Miki asked me what I'm bringing... I replied a sheepish 'eh... salt n pepper?'
The tragic thing is, I wasn't even kidding. I thought about SINGAPOREAN food, and came up with the usual : Mee Siam, Laksa, Satay, Otah, Chicken Rice, etc. And out of those, which ones do I know how to cook? Between Zero and Nil. I wonder if CITY SATAY delivers international? And so Miki tells me to order from Rice Kitchen (Chinese rest.) haha. I decided that asking Andrea for help over the internet isn't a very feasible idea. So I ordered a fondue set online.... cos all you have to do for a fondue is to melt a big bar of chocolate right? ...WRONG!!! Apparently, you have to add cream, add this, add that to the chocolate. oh MANNnn.. I chose chocolate fondue for a reason, and thats cos I thought it was the easiest. And now...now......WHAT CREAM??? WHERE TO BUY?!?! SO help me, lord.
I trooped down to the Oriental MArt yesterday to get maggi mee. As I looked around the store, amazed by all the imports they held, I started to feel a little remorseful... There are packets there to cook Ayam goreng, NAsi Goreng, yada yada, Udon, yellow doughey noodles... but I still don't know how to use them... (other than the fact that I don't actually have a KITCHEN..)....BOOHOOO HOOO...I am gonna be a bad mother, am I not? I will be one of those mothers who lets their kids eat fish sticks and chicken nuggets outta the box! And then they will hiam me like how I used to hiam my ma. Show me their cao bin at the dinner table... 'YUCKS! THIS, AGAIN!!!' .. 'WHY THE VEGETABLE NO TASTE?!'... 'do YOU EVEN CALL THIS FOOD?!?' ..... *sigh*
This is tragic. But anyway, back to the potluck. this is my set. VERY KAWAII right? It costs like $13 + 6 for shipping so its $20. Weird how I wouldn't even spend more than $15 on a top for myself, but have no qualms about plopping $20 for a fondue set that I probably won't use very often. That, my friends... is the power of food!

Second exciting thing is a PAJAMA PARTY on Saturday night! So fun!!!!!! The girls who went on the Puerto Rico trip wants a reunion.. So the selected Asian Sensations will be meeting for a night of chick flicks, pizza and toenail polishing. Sounds like fun. And so I had to buy new pajamas right? Cannot possibly go to a pajama party wearing a ratty tshirt and vj shorts. I ordered it online and it JUST arrived.. BUT IT SUCKS!!! i'm very upset now!!!!!! I wanan wear my satin sleep shirt but stupid shiyun says its very song2. BAH... admit it, u're just sore cos u're stuck writing a 20 page paper while I go out for Italian food!! NOW, if ONLY I can finish writing those darn papers that I ought to, and I'll be all set for the parties! :D
