Motown Magic - 5:14 PM
Yep, Motown Auction is finally over. After a year of planning, we have managed to rake in about $90 000 in Revenue. Nah, thats not alot compared to the $180 000 worth of donations we received. But it IS money. The past week, Auction became my profession. Sorta like Track n Field last time. Had to stay in the office till past midnight working on stuff. Just to see whether we pull it off. The freaky thing is that I didn't resent it, primarily cos the people on the Board are pretty funny and easygoing.
The event was to start at 5pm on Sat evening, but the E-board was there since 8am. The girls left to do our hair at 11am at the hair institute (cos its expensive leh, to go to a real profesional. It was already US$32 for an apprentice!) So we had to do 50s hair right, and I got this cannot make it apprentice (thankew lor), and her instructor wasn't much better. After 1.5hrs of tossing and tugging at my 'too fine too short' hair, I looked like SHIAT. Thats when I met my savior - an older instructor. My guess is that she buay tahaned about how shitty I looked, thats why she promptly came over and said 'the 50s hair is supposed to be very sleek. So this is what you have to do...' She proceeded to remove ALL the hair pins already in my SHIATTY hair and redid everything in 15mins. Ahhhhh, thank god for her I didn't look outta place.
My dress...hahhahahahahhaa!! Luckily, I found a 50s vintage dress on EBAY. (check it out here: http://cgi.ebay.com/R-E-O-Originals-Vintage-80s-50s-Swing-Style-Dress-S-10_W0QQitemZ5466052471QQcategoryZ63861QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Amazingly, no one bidded on it and so I won it for $9.90, it was THE RIGHT SIZE, it was what I was looking for.... Like what Shiyun and I said, even rarer than striking toto. Alas, it came far too long. It was like mid calf, and if you can imagine an empire cut with a midcalf length, the wearer will easily end up looking pregnant. So I had to RUSH out to buy needle and thread and attempt to hem it up myself. Ummm welllll parts of it fell apart thru the night, but we saved it with safety pins that Event Design brought. =P . I also had to pick out the white lace thing that was in the dress and bought a super itchy goldish tube top to wear inside to glam it up. Good move too. Everyone else were dressed up as well. Girls wore vintage dresses rented from the store, some of them wore PROM DRESSES and jazzed them with feather boas, gloves and huge retro earrings. Some guys rented their coats from the costume store too, purple jacket with black trim...pink ruffled shirt....baby blue embriodered jacket....HAHHAA. (DON'T scream but I don't have the pictures. Its somewhere with someone else....REALLY!!)
Anyway, after the event, there was a Post-Auction party at a FRAT HOUSE. Umm.. decided to go cos I'm after all part of the Eboard. It was this huge castle- like house. No food, only a large keg of beer... I NO LIKE! So we left pretty soon. (btw, ok I REALLY don't like parties. I couldn't even hear myself and there's not much point talking to people cos they were like half gone.)
Today's a Monday and thats when we usually hold our Auction meetings. But for now, we're all reverting back to a life of a student... The feeling's a little weird, yet a little relieving. Preparations for the next Auction will start in 2 weeks. Lets hope I get a nice position, because after all, thats what I came here to do. =)
