Happy CNY! - 1:55 AM
Woot. Got back from the HB office at 11.30pm. Suffered multiple paper cuts and was absolutely starved (the last time I ate was 230pm. A BANANA WAS ALL I HAD!) Have been there for 8 consecutive hours...Started off with a casual meeting with the CEO, but ended up helping them cos there were loads to finish. But oh well, with Auction just 2 weeks away, no choice but to piah all the way. But they felt bad for me cos I was only HR Director and yet I stayed with them (the CEO and the COO), but for me, its more like keeping my promise.See, when I signed up to be on the Executive Board, I signed away my commitment away as well. They gave me the Executive position despite my lousy unimpressive rambling conversation skills during the Interview, and I won't forget that chance they took. Though I still think that the only reason I got the job was cos no one else signed up for Auction E-board unlike all the other events cos it was much low-key than the rest. I.e. not all that rah-rah. Seriously...not that I'm not confident of myself...but SERIOUSLY. Honestly, I signed up last minute when I realised I wasn't gonna get the positions I signed up with the other events too. haha. But oh well, since they decided to give me a shot despite me being so quiet and wooden through all the meetings we've had, I want to return them the favor by helping all I can. Also, I've always had a problem saying no to people. I just don't know how to say no when they ask you for a favor etc, unless its REALLY out of your means. So since I have nothing to do on Thurdays nights even though the whole world's probably out getting drunk and have no class on Friday, I stayed on. So thats how 6pm became 8, and 8 became 10. They are still working in the office though poor things. Oh and we have to go back and do stuff on Saturday. THAT, is a first for Americans ok. we NEVER EVER meet on the weekends, unless we are seriously desperate.
On a positive note, ITS CHINESE NEW YEAR IN 3 DAYS. GONG XI GONG XI!!!
CNY is my FAVORITE festival EVER. Better than Christmas, kicks New Year's ass OBVIOUSLY... I just love the whole ang-gong4-gong3 atmosphere. Although sometimes I get migraines listening to an overdose of cheesy CNY songs, I actually like them! OHHH COME ONnnn.. don't be such a snob... don't dun tell me CNY is the same without them! Just like Christmas songs mah...we need to hear them to get us into the mood. Especially when you decide to battle the Chinatown crowds...mingling in that mass of bodies while trying to pick up mua-chi, candy, fruits, goodies, ornaments for the home... ITS ALL PART OF THE FEEL man.
Alas, CNY is not CNY when you're not at home. Its like any other normal day here, even though we have our own REUNION DINNER. But plz la, who wants to have reunion dinner with them?! Reunion dinner is with family mah.. but oh well guess I shouldn't complain that someone's organising a gettogether. So I guess I'll just get myself occupied by dreaming about being home, celebrating CNY.
Reunion dinner at Ah Mah's place. Standard steamboat. AHHHHHHHH.......reunion dinners are ALWAYS followed by watching Jackie Chan films until wanna hantam the TV (but I heard this yr they're NOT showing JC films anymore!), then going down to Chinatown to squeeze with people just to get the 'atmosphere' abit.
Actually I think the build up to CNY is more fun la, just like how the build up to PROM is more fun than Prom itself, how the pre-Christmas frenzy is so much more anticipated than Christmas.... How we celebrated NYE but spend New Years at home... :D
Oh well, GONG XI FA CAI! Don't forget me if this phrase FINALLY catches on to you this year and you really FA CAI hor.
Wishing everyone SHENG TI JIAN KANG, WAN SHI RU YI!
